Tengrinews.kz – A series of earthquakes of varying magnitudes has occurred in India.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the strongest quake, with a magnitude of 5.5, struck the state of Assam, 65 kilometers northeast of the city of Guwahati (population approx. 899,000). The epicenter was located at a depth of 29 kilometers.
Later, aftershocks with magnitudes of 3.1 and 2.9 were recorded in the same area. Their epicenters were near the town of Dhekiajuli, at a depth of about 5 kilometers.
In addition, tremors measuring 2.7 were recorded in the state of Karnataka, 69 kilometers north of the city of Gangavati, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Residents reported feeling the tremors, with many rushing out of their homes in panic.

According to the Hindustan Times, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa stated that there have been no reports of serious damage or casualties.
“We are closely monitoring the situation,” he said.
