Tengrinews.kz – Republican congresswoman Claudia Tenney has proposed making Trump’s birthday, June 14, a national holiday by merging it with Flag Day, citing The Guardian.
Tenney’s attempt is likely doomed in Congress, but it is clearly aimed at winning the president’s favor, the publication suggests.
Claudia Tenney, a representative from the Finger Lakes region in New York, believes Trump is "the most consequential … in modern American history."
She suggested that Trump’s birthday deserves the same recognition as George Washington’s birthday, which is celebrated annually as a federal holiday on the third Monday of February.
Many users on X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, mocked Tenney’s proposal.
"Sure, that will bring down the cost of my groceries," "Surely you have better things to do with your time. Stop brown-nosing and get to work for your constituents," commented users.
Nevertheless, Tenney’s bill may find support in the Republican-controlled Congress. However, Republicans do not have a large enough majority in the U.S. Senate to pass it without Democratic support.
In January, Republican congressman Addison McDowell proposed renaming Washington Dulles International Airport after Trump, while Republican congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna also suggested adding his likeness to Mount Rushmore alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt.
