Tengrinews.kz – A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off the southern coast of the Philippines on the morning of October 10.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the epicenter was located 63 kilometers northeast of Mati and 18 kilometers east-northeast of Manay.
Social media reports indicate that mass evacuations are underway.
“Waves up to 3 meters may impact coastal areas. Local authorities urge residents to stay alert,” the statement reads.

According to Reuters, the quake’s epicenter was in the sea near the city of Manay, at a depth of about 20 kilometers.
Following the tremor, tsunami warnings were issued for coastal areas of the Philippines, as well as Indonesia and Palau. Residents of coastal settlements were urged to move to higher ground.
Local authorities reported structural damage near the epicenter, and the President of the Philippines ordered rescue teams to be placed on standby.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning System noted that hazardous waves could affect coastlines within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.
Officials also warned of potential aftershocks. So far, no casualties have been reported.
