Tengrinews.kz - North Korea has officially denied reports about sending its troops to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine, calling such claims "baseless rumors". This statement follows accusations from South Korea, which North Korean representatives labeled as attempts to undermine Pyongyang’s reputation and its legitimate relations with Russia.

North Korea’s ambassador, Kim Song, made this declaration during a UN General Assembly working group meeting in New York, defending the ties between the two countries as being misrepresented.

Russia has also denied any reports of North Korean soldiers being sent to fight in Ukraine. The Russian ambassador to South Korea stated that cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang is not aimed at threatening South Korean security interests.

While NATO and the U.S. have not confirmed the presence of North Korean troops in Russia, U.S. representatives warned of the potential danger such a move would pose. U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Kevin Wood, expressed deep concern about the possibility.

South Korean intelligence reported on October 18 that approximately 1,500 North Korean soldiers had been deployed to Russia’s Far East for training, with plans to send them to the Ukrainian front. According to South Korean agency Yonhap, Pyongyang allegedly plans to send a total of 12,000 soldiers, including special forces.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also referenced these reports during discussions at an EU summit in Brussels. Additionally, Ukraine's Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security released a video purportedly showing North Korean soldiers being equipped with Russian gear in preparation for deployment.
