Tengrinews.kz – Paris police have arrested two more people in connection with the bold theft of royal jewels from the Louvre, bringing the total number of detainees to seven, according to Deutsche Welle.

Paris Prosecutor Laure Becco stated that a 37-year-old man has been charged with theft committed by an organized group and participation in a criminal conspiracy. His alleged accomplice, a 38-year-old woman, is being investigated as an accessory. Both suspects have been taken into custody.

Earlier in the investigation, five people had already been detained, one of whom was identified through DNA analysis. Three of them were later released without charges.

This week, two other men aged 34 and 39, residents of northern Paris, were also charged with similar offenses. Investigators believe they were part of a four-person group involved in the robbery. According to the prosecutor’s office, both suspects gave only minimal testimony and partially admitted their guilt.

On October 19, the Louvre Museum was robbed within minutes. According to BFMTV, the robbers arrived on scooters, used an external freight elevator to reach the windows, smashed them, and entered the museum. They stole jewels from the collections of Napoleon and Empress Josephine, then escaped.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the Louvre robbery as an “attack on the nation’s heritage and history.” Meanwhile, Telegram founder Pavel Durov linked the heist to the “decline of once-great France” and expressed his willingness to buy back the stolen jewels.
