Tengrinews.kz – Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley, co-founder, vocalist, and lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Kiss, has died at the age of 74, Variety reported, citing a statement from his family.
The musician passed away in Morristown, New Jersey, from injuries sustained in a fall last month.
“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers, and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!” — said the family in their statement.
Ace Frehley created the “Space Ace” character and makeup when he joined Kiss, which had been founded earlier by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He played in the band from its formation in 1973 until his departure in 1982, and later returned during their 1990s reunion.
While the main songwriters of Kiss were Simmons and Stanley, Frehley’s guitar skills and rock-star charisma were key to the band’s success. He wrote iconic songs such as “Cold Gin,” “Parasite,” “Shock Me,” “Talk to Me,” and others.
Although Kiss were not always respected by critics or the rock elite, their influence on generations of musicians and fans was immense and lasting. Known for their theatrical makeup and costumes, the band helped shape the concept of modern rock concerts as grand stage shows.
For more than a decade, the members’ faces remained a mystery to audiences.
