Tengrinews.kz - Italy has blocked a new Chinese AI-based chatbot, DeepSeek.
The local regulator, Garante, restricted access to DeepSeek to protect the data of Italians.
"Garante urgently restricted the processing of data from Italian users by Hangzhou DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence and Beijing DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence - the Chinese developers of the DeepSeek chatbot," the statement said.
The restriction, introduced to protect the data of Italian users, followed a response from the mentioned companies.
"Despite the authorities' findings, the companies stated that they do not operate in Italy and that European legislation does not apply to them," the information added.
In addition to the restrictions, the regulator also initiated an investigation.
Recall, OpenAI claims to have evidence that the new Chinese AI chatbot DeepSeek used its data to develop its own product.
