Fires in Los Angeles: death toll rises

Tengrinews.kz - At least 10 people have died as a result of large fires near Los Angeles, according to CNN.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner stated that as of Thursday evening, it had received notification of 10 deaths related to the fire.

"No names were released by the medical examiner. All cases are pending identification and legal next of kin notification," the department said.

Several large wildfires have been raging in Los Angeles County for several days. Residents are being evacuated from their homes. Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated and lost their property.

"Firefighters made progress as Santa Ana winds weakened, but gusts picked up across the region as the day went on. Officials also launched a major response to a new fire near the border of LA and Ventura counties, which prompted evacuations. Residents are also contending with polluted air and other hazardous conditions," CNN reports.

The fire has destroyed up to 10,000 structures in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood. This natural disaster is currently the most devastating ever to have occurred in Los Angeles County. Local authorities have requested support from the California National Guard.

The wildfires that have engulfed Los Angeles have left behind ashes instead of luxurious mansions. The disaster shows no mercy, with some Hollywood stars also losing their homes.
