Tengrinews.kz – Owner of social network X, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk, has stated that he is not interested in acquiring TikTok.
According to TechCrunch, the American billionaire spoke about this at the WELT Economic Summit in Germany on January 28. A video of his interview was published on Saturday.
"I have not put in a bid for TikTok. I don’t have any plans for what would I do if I had TikTok. I guess I would look at the algorithm and try to decide: How helpful or useful is this algorithm? And what can we do to shift the algorithm to be more productive and ultimately be beneficial to humanity?" he said in the interview.
Musk also added that he personally does not use TikTok and is "not that familiar with it."
He described his acquisition of Twitter (now X) as an exception in his career.
"I usually build companies from scratch," he noted.
In April 2024, the U.S. passed a bill that could lead to a ban on TikTok. The Senate approved a package of four laws, one of which requires the Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, to sell the app to a foreign company within nine months.
Earlier this year, media reports suggested that China was considering selling TikTok’s U.S. assets to Elon Musk.
On January 19, TikTok was briefly blocked for American users, but they regained access to the platform shortly after. Donald Trump, upon taking office as U.S. President, signed an order granting a 75-day delay on the TikTok ban in the country.
