The tremor was recorded at 7:53 p.m. local time. The epicenter was located in the district of Sındırgı at a depth of 11 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt in Izmir, Kutahya, Yalova, Istanbul, Manisa, Usak, Aydin, Eskisehir, Sakarya, and Tekirdag. In Sindirgi, one building collapsed.

According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the quake in Sındırgı, Balıkesir Province, caused the collapse of one building and damaged at least 24 others.

Later, the authorities reported that all citizens trapped under the rubble of the building in Balıkesir had been rescued.

AFAD stated that 20 aftershocks were recorded after the earthquake, five of which had magnitudes above 4.

The tremor was also felt in Istanbul, where many residents left their homes and gathered in parks and open areas.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed support for the victims on social media and said that all relevant services began work from the very first minutes after the earthquake.
