Tengrinews.kz - Thai authorities dismiss rumors of terrorist threat on Koh Pha-ngan.

According to The Nation, local authorities and police in Surat Thani province have denied reports of a supposed terrorist attack targeting tourists, particularly Israelis, on the popular island of Koh Pha-ngan. Officials confirmed the threat was unfounded and labeled it as "fake news" terrorist attack.

Reports of planned attacks circulated on social media, claiming Israelis could be targeted amid the escalating Middle East conflict. However, Surat Thani police chief Pol Maj-General Sermpan Sirikong assured the public that there is no credible information about any security threats on Koh Pha-ngan, and tourists have no reason to worry.

Ahead of the Full Moon Party—a monthly event attracting thousands of tourists—police and security services have increased patrols and surveillance on the island. This month’s party will be held on Loy Krathong Day on November 15.

"Visitors to Koh Pha-ngan can rest assured that the island is safe, as police and related officials will be monitoring the event closely tomorrow to ensure the safety of locals and all tourists," Sermpan Sirikong said.

Noppadol Kaomali, head of Koh Pha-ngan district in Surat Thani province, held a press conference on Wednesday, emphasizing that reports of planned attacks had been thoroughly investigated and found to be unconfirmed. Authorities urged tourists to rely only on verified sources and not to panic over false information circulating online.

Thailand's Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai stated that the Israeli Embassy in Thailand confirmed there were no warnings issued to its citizens regarding safety concerns in the country. Furthermore, Thai authorities noted that Interpol had not made any statements supporting such security threat claims in Thailand.

“Thailand is a neutral country with balanced relations with other countries. It is common for people to come and go, especially during the tourist season when there is a high volume of visitors. Warnings and advisories in such situations are also normal,” Phumtham Wechayachai emphasized that security forces remain on high alert at all times.

Thai authorities continue to work actively to ensure safety in tourist areas and encourage visitors to enjoy their holidays while trusting official sources of information.

Incidentally, it was recently revealed how much Kazakhstani tourists spent in Thailand in 2024. More details can be found in the article.
