Tengrinews.kz – The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on the Kazakh company Kazstanex, citing its role as an intermediary in supplying machinery to Russia through Central Asia, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
According to the Treasury, Kazstanex, along with Uzbek company Uzstanex, received shipments of machinery from Europe and redirected them to Shanghai Winsun Imp and Exp Co Ltd in China for further delivery to Russia.
The statement notes that these companies coordinated shipments with Russian citizens Igor and Tatyana Khomenko, who were managed by Alexander Ushko, an employee at a European machinery firm. Alexander Ushko allegedly supported his father, Sergey Ushko, director of the Russian company “Technology for the Development of Open Systems” (TROS), in acquiring the equipment. TROS specializes in manufacturing and wholesale of metalworking machinery.
"TROS, Sergey Ushko, Alexander Ushko, Igor Khomenko, Tatyana Khomenko, Uzstanex, Kazstanex, and Shanghai Winsun have been sanctioned under Executive Order 14024 for engaging in or supporting the manufacturing sector of the Russian Federation’s economy," stated the U.S. Treasury.
Kazstanex is headquartered in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with an additional office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The company is known as a leading supplier of industrial and machine equipment in the Kazakh market.
Previously, another Kazakh company, Elem Group, was added to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s entity list, restricting U.S. suppliers from exporting goods to Elem Group without a special license.
