Tengrinews.kz - Colombia has agreed to accept deported migrants from the United States, who will be transported on military aircraft, according to DW.
The agreement comes in response to Washington’s threats of imposing sanctions.
"The Government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay," the White House said in a statement.
According to the report, Donald Trump vowed to defend US sovereignty and expects full cooperation from other nations in the deportation of their citizens who are unlawfully residing in America.
However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that Washington will maintain visa restrictions on Colombian officials and heightened customs inspections on goods until the first group of deported migrants is successfully brought to Colombia.
Previously, Mexico refused landing rights to a US military aircraft carrying undocumented migrants. Meanwhile, Guatemala accepted three deportation flights from the US with citizens sent back to their home country.
Trump had earlier pledged to initiate mass deportations on his first day in office. During his election campaign, he vowed to halt illegal immigration into the US and proposed deploying military forces to strengthen border security.
Earlier, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the USA made a statement in connection with the tightening of US immigration policy aimed at strengthening border security and reducing illegal immigration.
