Lula da Silva was reportedly admitted to the hospital on the evening of December 9 for examination due to a headache. An MRI scan showed intracranial hemorrhage, which was the result of the accident that occurred on October 19. He was then transferred from the hospital's capital branch to Sao Paulo, where he underwent a brain hemorrhage surgery to drain the hematoma.

The operation is reported to have gone without complications. The Brazilian president is currently feeling well and is being monitored in the intensive care unit.
