State of emergency was prolonged in Zhanaozen, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan President’s press-service. “According to Article 7 Clause 3 of Kazakhstan Law On State of Emergency I decree: 1. To prolong the state of emergency in Zhanaozen, Mangistau oblast, that was introduced by Kazakhstan President’s Decree No.197 On the state of emergency in Zhanaozen, Mangistau oblast dated December 17, 2011 until 7:00 a.m. on January 31, 2012. 2. Kazakhstan government along with the authorized state bodies have to take the required measures arising from this Decree. 3. The Decree shall come into effect upon its signing,” the President’s press-service published the Decree on January 4. The state of emergency was announced in Zhanaozen on December 17. It was scheduled to last until 7:00 a.m. January 5, 2012. Clashes in Zhanaozen happened on December 16. State of emergency was announced in the town until January 5, 2012. The number of victims reached 16 people. As reported today, January 4, the situation in Zhanaozen is stable. Shops, banks and other facilities are functioning, the town’s appearance is restored. Fired workers are being employed.
