Earlier unknown Islamic group Djund Al-Khalifat (Soldiers of Khalifat) threatened Kazakhstan with violence in case the authorities do not cancel the Law on Religion, NR2.ru reports citing REUTERS. Djund Al-Khalifat uploaded a video with Arabic subtitles dated October 21. There is no authentication of the video. In the video 4 maked militants with machine guns and grenade-launchers stand behind a gunman who reads the message. He requires cancellation of the religion law that bans prayer rooms from public offices and prohibits wearing hijabs. The actual law, by the way, does not touch the issue of hijabs at all. The islamists think that the political course pursued by Kazakhstan is similar to those of Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. They warn that this may “spell losses”, meaning the revolutions in Arab countries. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that the law On religious activities and religious institutions was signed on October 13. It bans prayer rooms from public offices, unregistered religious activities at the territory of Kazakhstan and requires re-registration of all the religious institutions.
