The investigation identified 40 active participants and organizers of Zhanaozen riots, Tengrinews.kz reports citing press-service of Kazakhstan Interior Ministry. “40 active participants and organizers of the clashed have been identified during search and special operations in Zhanaozen. 18 of them were arrested. Besides, 10 people have been arrested for Shetpe clashes,” the Ministry’s message states. 17 officers of law-enforcement authorities were injured during Zhanaozen clashes. 35 policemen applied to hospital for help on December 16-18. “In relation to the false information about many victims, tortures and other illegal actions of police officers, the Public Commission formed on the President’s instruction and made of Zhanaozen residents, representatives of the community and deputy prosecutor of the oblast checked the offices and other facilities of Zhanaozen Interior Department. Members of the commission also visited temporary detention facilities for apprehended suspects of the crimes, checked all the premises and adjacent territories. The visit included interviews with apprehended people. There were no complains or statements about tortures, beating or other illegal actions of police officers. Besides, the commission visited central town hospital and met with the victims of the clashes. The commission also checked the morgue for unregistered corpses and made respective records in the protocol,” Interior Ministry writes.
