Tengrinews.kz — Almaty residents have noticed an unusual road sign rarely seen on city streets. Police explained the reason for its installation and to whom it applies.
"Driving for 20 years and seeing it for the first time"
A post from an Almaty resident appeared on social media, social media post recounting how he noticed a "Horse-drawn vehicles prohibited" sign in the city for the first time in many years. According to him, the sign was recently installed on Satpayev Street.
"I've been driving for 20 years and I think this is the first time I've seen this sign in Almaty. It was recently installed on Satpayev Street, near the National Bank and the Kasteev Museum," the author of the post wrote.
What this sign means
The Almaty Police Department explained that this is road sign 3.8, "Horse-drawn vehicles prohibited." It is installed in areas where the movement of animal-drawn transport is banned under traffic regulations.
"The installation of this sign is carried out to ensure road safety and organize traffic flows, taking into account the specific characteristics of a particular section of the street and road network," the Police Department explained.
The agency clarified that the sign's requirements are mandatory for all road users. It applies to:
- horse-drawn carriages/wagons,
- harnessed animals,
- as well as ridden and pack animals.
Where this sign was installed in Almaty
According to police data, the "Horse-drawn vehicles prohibited" sign was installed at the following locations:
- Copernicus Street – Makataev Street;
- Dulati Street – Otegen Batyr Street;
- Musrepov Street – Satpayev Street.
