JOGMEC and Kazgeologiya National Geological Exploration Company are expecting to start exploration works in spring 2016, primarily in territories rich in yttrium in Karaganda and Kostanai regions.
At the initial stage, production of rare earth concentrates will stand at 1 500 tons to be further brought up to 5 000 – 6 000 a year.
The shareholders are considering a feasibility study and are about to define parameters to expand the project: Vice Head of KazAtomProm.
According to him, Japan could be very helpful to ensure effective production [of rare earths] as we do possess high technology.
It is expected to start its operations as early as in November.
