Famous Kazakhstan mountain climber Maksut Zhumayev has planted Kazakhstan flag on the top of Grossglockner, the highest mountain of Austria. The planting coincided with the football match between Kazakhstan and Austrian national football teams held in Vienna on October 16, Tengrinews.kz reports. “I would like to dedicate this joint ascent of Kazakhstan and Austrian climbers to the forthcoming football match. There is much interest to this match in Austria. Winning isn't everything, but I hope that Kazakhstan team scores more goals,” Zhumayev said before the ascent and added that he was planning to plant the flag on October 15. According to Zhumayev, he arrived to Austria on October 2 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and Partnership with Austrian Alpine Community. He has come up with the idea to plant the flag at the top of the highest Austrian mountain later on. “I have brought Kazakhstan flag to Austria. Perhaps, I felt it with my heart that I will make use of it,” the mountain climber said. “Signing of this Memorandum will be timed to the official visit of Kazakhstan President to Austria on October 22-23. This is a serious step and a serious document and it is important for my project, for development of eco-tourism, youth tourism and mountain skiing tourism in Kazakhstan,” Zhumayev said. The agreement will be signed on October 20. The 150th anniversary of the Alpine Community will be celebrated on the same day and 500 guests, including Zhumayev as an honorary guest, have been invited to take part in the celebration. “I am living for the mountains today to research Austrian tourist infrastructure. My goal is to make our Kazakhstan nature similar to the European one in terms of security, service industry and popularity. Constructing hotels is one thing, but breathing some life into them is another. This is a huge work and it is worth adopting experience from those who have been practicing it for 100-150-200 years,” he said. The Kazakhstan climber also hopes to present his project his project to the presidents of the two countries. “Several stands will be mounted for the meeting. Austrian and Kazakhstan representatives will be telling about their joint projects. This meeting can become a life altering milestone for development of the projects. My project is a new step towards development of tourism in Kazakhstan,” Zhumayev said.
