Young Kazakh skater wins bronze at Junior Grand Prix in Japan

Kazakhstan’s fugure skater, 14, Elizabet Tursynbayeva has become the bronze prizewinner at the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating which was held on September 10-14 in Achi, Japan, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Kazakhstan’s fugure skater, 14, Elizabet Tursynbayeva has become the bronze prizewinner at the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating which was held on September 10-14 in Achi, Japan, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Young figure skater became first after the short program with a total score of 59.25 points. However, Elizabet found herself fifth at the free skating program because of a number of mistakes she made during the performance.

As a result, Elizabet earned a total of 280.09 points for her performance and became a bronze prizewinner of the tournament.

The winner of the Junior Grand Prix was Russian Serafima Sakhanovich, 14, with 177.69 points in total followed by Japanese Yuka Nagai who earned a total 161.65 points.

Elizabet Tursynbayeva is a Kazakh skater who was born in 2000 in Moscow. She began competing internationally for Kazakhstan at the Rooster Cup in April 2011. In 2011-2012, Kazakhstan skater was training in Moscow under the guidance of Svetlana Sokolovskaya and Yelena Vodorezova, who used to train Denis Ten, another famous Kazakhstan skater. In 2012-2013 season, Eteri Tutberidze, who is now the coach of the Grand Prix's winner Serafima Sakhanovich, coached Elizabet in Moscow.

Thereafter, in 2013, the young skater moved to Toronto, Canada to work with Brian Orser, a retired Canadian figure skating star, who won Olympic silver in 1984 and 1988, gold at the 1987 World champion and was the Canadian national champion in 1981-1988. After retiring from performing, Orser became a coach, leading two skaters, Kim Yuna and Yuzuru Hanyu, to Olympic gold medals.

Elizabet Tyrsynbayeva is a three-time Kazakhstan champion and winner of various international competitions, such as the New Year Cup 2014 Bratislava, Gardena Spring Trophy 2014, Triglav Trophy 2014.

The Junior Grand Prix that was held on September 10-14 in Achi, Japan is an international figure skating competition organized by the International Skating Union.
