Tengrinews.kz - A veterinary clinic has opened in Astana at the Kazanat racetrack, just 10 meters from the racing tracks, to care for animals participating in the 5th World Nomad Games, according to 24KZ.
According to the channel, the medical facility is intended for large animals, mainly horses and dogs, but is also prepared to treat hunting birds.
"The clinic officially opened today. However, the first patients are expected from tomorrow," the report states.
The team includes 25 specialists, including radiologists, ultrasound technicians, and anesthesiologists. Among them is veterinarian Dyusen Domanov, with 30 years of experience, who, as a surgeon, tests and checks the readiness of equipment for treating horses, dogs, and birds.
"The clinic is focused on the prompt recovery of animals, providing them with everything needed: from modern equipment and a pharmacy to a quarantine zone and six stalls. In case of complex injuries, such as fractures, horses will be transported using a specialized crane vehicle," the report notes.
At the Games, equestrian events are the first to take place, so horses are inspected very thoroughly. All horses must undergo a medical examination and provide vaccination and disease documentation. Veterinarians also scan the horses' chips to confirm their data.
"We measure their temperature, check their lymph nodes, and inspect for open wounds. If there are any suspicions, the horse is sent to quarantine for further testing. If suspicions are confirmed or diseases are detected, the horse will be excluded from the Games," he said.
What to expect from the World Nomad Games in Kazakhstan
More than 550 horses will participate in the Nomad Games. 75% of them have already undergone clinical examinations. Four horses from Kyrgyzstan were not allowed to participate in the Games. The remaining horses have received health passports and have been placed in stables. The first kokpar competitions will begin tomorrow at the racetrack.
Kokpar is a traditional Central Asian horse game where teams compete to control a headless goat carcass and score points by delivering it to a goal.
