Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the scandal during the kokpar final between the teams of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, which took place during the World Nomad Games in Astana.

The final match of the kokpar tournament between the national teams of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan occurred on September 12. Six minutes before the end of the first half, with the score at 1:3 in favor of Kyrgyzstan, a conflict erupted at the hippodrome.

"This is our brotherly country. We have good relations with them. If any disputes arise in sports, it’s just sports. There is no politics involved. We have been neighbors for centuries and will remain so in the future," stated the official representative of the MFA of Kazakhstan, Aybek Smadiyarov.

Journalists also asked Smadiyarov whether this conflict would affect diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"You saw that these are strong men on horses. Naturally, they have a lot of adrenaline. Emotional behavior is not unusual; it happens. It will not affect our relations in any way. This is just one game, and we cannot let the result of one game overshadow all our relations," explained the MFA representative.

After the incident during the game, police officers intervened to separate the athletes. Following the break, the Kazakh team managed to secure a victory and win gold.

After the competition, media reported that the guest team proposed to hold a friendly match in Kyrgyzstan, assuring that neutral referees would officiate the game. The kokpar federation later responded to the invitation from the Kyrgyz team.
