Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan's figure skater Sofya Samodelkina shared her thoughts on her performance at the Winter Olympics in Italy and thanked her fans for their support.
The 19-year-old figure skater became the first in Kazakhstan’s history in women's singles skating to break into the top 10 at the Olympics.
According to her, she hopes to bring a medal to her country at the next Olympics in 2030.
"Thank you so much for coming here. It’s a very late hour, and there are so many of you. I always feel your support, especially before my two routines. Naturally, I was nervous, but when I saw all the comments and posts, how everyone was cheering for me, standing behind me with the flag, I was so proud that Kazakhstan, such a country, believes in me and trusts me, giving me the opportunity to perform and showcase myself at such competitions," said Sofya during the official ceremony welcoming the Olympic participants at the capital’s airport.
She also mentioned her plans for the future.
"I’m very happy with what I achieved. I will try next time to show an even higher result and bring a gold medal, just like Mikhail," she concluded.
For Sofya Samodelkina, the Games in Italy were her first Olympics. After the short program, she was in 12th place, but then performed successfully in the free skate and gained two more positions, breaking into the top 10.
