Annual water-tourism tournament called Koksu Master-Class-2011 was held on the Koksu River in Almaty oblast on August 6 and 7, Tengrinews.kz reports. Despite of the fact that there were more girls' teams than men's, Tsunami girls' team managed to win more awards than any other team. The team was ranked first in “raft sprint of 6”, “catamaran sprint of 4” and “catamaran marathon of 4”. The Tsunami team’s captain Marina Vilyayeva is only 23. She works as an office-manager of one of Almaty event agencies. Marina managed take her team through “Propeller” rift of the fifth category of difficulty. “It is not difficult to be a captain of a women’s team, or I would say it is not difficult to be a captain of my women’s team! Of course, there are some special features, for example, we don’t like to be treated like guys. As long as we are in this sport we have to face all challenges, including lifting a 60-kg raft. But when we were getting the team together, our goal was to gather a team not only for water, but in life as well,” Vilyayeva said. Impressions turned out to be more important than victory for water-tourism team from Latvia called Olaines Pulcin,s’. “Victory is not a priority for us. First of all, it is entertainment,” the team’s captain Boris Kool said. “Participation, new friends and impressions are most important for us. Kazakhstan is an exotic place for us! Guys let us taste kuyrdak (national Kazakh meat and potato dish), it is an excellent food. Very tasty!” The tournament passed without any accidents, but Almaty team called Yeti decided to add some extreme and combined rafting with breath-taking jumps into the water. The guys were performing complex acrobatic elements when jumping off the bridge. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that World Rafting Championship will be held in Altay on August 26-29. Kazakhstan will be represented by three teams: men's Muchachos and Alina-legion, and women's BEMS.
