Kazakhstan track and field athlete Olga Rypakova will take part in prestigious 2012 IAAF Diamond League competition, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Sports.kz.
This tournament will become the key preparation stage prior to the London Olympic Games for one of the best Kazakhstan athlete. “The first Diamond League stage will be held on May 11 in Doha. Then we’ll see what invitations I will get further. I will try to compete in two tournaments,” the athlete said.
The Diamond League is an annual series of commercial competitions that is held by International Association of Athletics Federations. The final stage traditionally takes place in Zurich or Brussels. The winner of the series gets $40 000 as a prize money and a four-carat diamond.
Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that Rypakova has won a silver medal in the World Indoor Track and Field Athletics championship that was held in Turkey on March 9-11. The athlete said that she experienced some difficulties during the competition: “There were some problems with the run-up. I will discuss and analyze them with my coach. There were some difficulties with the final trainings prior to this competition as well. We have come to Almaty after the training camp. You know, Almaty indoor track is being reconstructed now. So I had no opportunity to get fully prepared.”
