The head of Kazakhstan’s Cycling Federation Kairat Kelimbetov has summarized the Tour de France and achievements of the ProTeam Astana in an exclusive interview for TengrinewsTV.
Vincezno Nibali, captain of Astana team took the highest step of the podium at the Champ-Elysees after the 2014 Tour de France.
“We are glad that the leader of the Astana Team did not give up the yellow shirt during the entire race. Vincenzo Nibali won three stages including the royal stage, that I consider a clear-cut victory. Nibali showcased superiority over his opponents. But for me, ultimately, the Tour de France this year is a return of the ProTeam Astana to its leading position,” Kelimbetov said.
“The team was set to win and symbolically, we won the first stage on July 6, which coincided with the Day of the capital city of Astana. I think, that the strategy was to get the leading position and retain it throughout the race. The team managed to do it,” the Head of the Federation said.
Kelimbetov added that Kazakhstani cyclers are professionally growing as they compete with the best cyclers at international races. The Governor puts faith in Nibali and believes that the Italian cycler will continue brining victories to his team. Nibali signed a contract with ProTeam Astana till 2016.
