Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has requested an explanation from the Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF) following a comment made by head coach Stanislav Cherchesov during a press conference.
During the press conference, a journalist asked Cherchesov a question in Kazakh. Noticing that the journalist was wearing a Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) jersey, Cherchesov jokingly asked, "Do you speak French?" Many fans found the remark offensive.
"The Ministry of Tourism and Sports promptly responded to the incident, sending an official request to the Kazakhstan Football Federation. The document noted that the state language, as defined by the Constitution and the Law on Languages, holds a special status, and all citizens are required to show proper respect for it.
The Ministry demanded that the Federation provide an official explanation regarding the incident and conduct a briefing with the national team’s head coach on the importance of showing respect for the state language," the statement from the Ministry read.
The Ministry clarified that it cannot directly influence the activities of the KFF, as it is not a subordinate organization. However, it emphasized that it has the right to request explanations and urges all sports federations to respect national values and state symbols.
