Marathon to support children with ICP will be held in Almaty

Charitable marathon to support children with ICP (Infantile Cerebral Paralysis) will be held in Almaty on May 27, 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports. Southern capital (unofficial name of Almaty city) will join this international sports trend that has being upheld by New York, Paris, Vienna and Amsterdam for several decades already. Anyone aged 10 and up can take part in the marathon called “Courage to be the First”. They will run 2-, 9-, 21- and 42-kilometer long distances. It is expected that this sport event will gather more than 1000 participants, both professional runners and people who just like jogging. The Akim (Mayor) of Almaty city Akhmetzhan Yessimov will take part in the Marathon along with businessmen and showmen. The main goal of the marathon is to raise money for treatment of Kazakhstan children suffering from ICP (Infantile Cerebral Paralysis). Marathon will start at the Ski Jumping Complex at Al-Farabi Avenue at 8:00 a.m. Astana time and will finish at Dynamo Stadium (Shevchenko Str., at the corner of Nauryzbay Batyr Str.) All the participants will be awarded with memorable souvenirs and Diplomas. Winners of the the 42-km marathon will be awarded with a TV set, $2000 and a ticket to a marathon in Amsterdam. Winners of the children’s marathon will be awarded with bicycles. Prominent Kazakhstan cyclists Aleksandr Vinokourov has also prepared some gifts for the winners: several sets of sports uniform with his autographs. Traffic along Al-Farabi, Seifullin Avenues and Eastern By-Pass Highway will be restricted during the marathon. Those wishing to take part in the marathon, should make a charitable donation of at least 200 tenge ($1.4) to participate in the event. Participants should also register at the official website of the Marathon before May 26.
