Kazakstani boxer Kyzaibay wins gold at AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships

Kazakhstani boxer Nazym Kyzaibay has won the gold medal of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Jeju, South Korea in the light flyweight (-48 kg) category, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.


Kazakhstani boxer Nazym Kyzaibay has won the gold medal of the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Jeju, South Korea in the light flyweight (-48 kg) category, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

In the quarterfinal bout, the Kazakh boxer won three time silver medalist Steluta Duta from Romania 3:0. In the following semi-final fight, Kyzaibay defeated a Japanese boxer Madoka Wada by a unanimous decision.

In the final fight, Kyzaibay faced Sarjubala Devi from India. Devi won the AIBA World Youth Boxing Championships in 2011. Kyzaibay beat Devi 3:0 and took the gold medal of the World Championship.

Another Kazakhstani boxer Lyazzat Kungeibayeva won over Danijela Vernić from Croatia in the quarterfinal fight of the heavyweight (+81 kg) category. In the semifinal, the Kazakh boxer defeated a Turkish boxer Emine Bozduman. But Kungeibayeva lost to a Russian boxer Zenfira Magomedalieva in the final fight of the championship.

Kyzaibay is the second Kazakhstani boxer to win two medals of a World Championship. Two years before Kyzaibay brought Kazakhstan a bronze medal. Earlier, Nazgul Boranbayeva was the sole boxer to have two medals in the World Championship.

Dina Zholaman from Kazakhstan competed in the bantam weight (-54 kg) category but lost to the 2010 World Champion from Russia Yelena Savelyeva with the score of 1:2.

The 2014 Women's World Amateur Boxing Championships took place in Jeju City, South Korea in November 13-25.
