Kazakhstan’s swimmer Dmitriy Balandin has hauled the first gold medal for Kazakhstan on July 5 at the 2015 Summer Universiade taking place in South Korean city of Gwangju, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. The Summer Universiade started on July 3 and will last until July 14.

The 20-year-old athlete won the men’s 100m breastroke in 59.96 seconds, leaving British swimmers Alexander James Wilby (1:28) and Craig Harry Benson (1:33) far behind.
Kazakhstan’s judoka Zhanar Kashkyn clinched a bronze medal for Kazakhstan the same day. She competed in 70 kg weight category.
This Wednesday morning, Kazakhstan shooting team consisting of Assem Orynbai, Zhaniya Aidarkhanova and Angelina Michshuk won a bronze medal at the Women's Skeet Team event scoring 191 points. The first place went to the Czech team that earned 196 points followed by the Russian team with 195 points.
As a result, Kazakhstan’s team now ranks 22th in the overall standings along with Mongolia.
The host country's team is the leader of the rankings that has already won 56 medals: 27 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze medals.
The Chinese team occupies the second line with 32 medals in total: 16 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze, whereas the Japanese team is on the third place having earned 43 medals so far: 13 gold, 13 silver and 17 bronze.
