Kazakhstan team won first match in World Bandy Championship

Kazakhstan national bandy team has won its first match in the World Bandy Championship that is being held in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. The host country has won over Norway team 10:1 in the first match that took place at Medeu Sports Complex in the mountains near Almaty. Today, on January 30 Kazakhstan team will play against the U.S. team. The match will start at 7 p.m. Astana time. Two more World Championship games were held on January 29: Russia flattened the U.S. 19:3 and Sweden won over Finland 12:0. At present Almaty is hosting the 32nd World Bandy Championship. National Bandy teams from Norway, Netherlands, Canada, Belarus, Hungary, Japan, Estonia and Latvia are taking part in the Championship besides the above-mentioned teams. Kyrgyzstan team is expected to come to the Championship as well if the team obtains the funding for traveling and equipment. World Bandy Championship will finish on February 5. Bandy is a team winter sport played on ice (unofficially known as Russian hockey), in which skaters use sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal.
