Kazakhstan is capable of Beijing results at the Olympics in London

Kazakhstan national team can show the results at the Olympics games in London that would be as good as the ones at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the vice president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan Pavel Novikov. This was his statement at the press conference on 22nd anniversary from the day of NOC establishment in Kazakhstan. “The process of securing Olympic licenses is not yet complete. All of our energy is now focused on that. We will be setting goals and planning medals to win later depending on the number of spots we have at the games. For now I can only say that we will show the same results in London as we did in Beijing, possibly even better ones,” Novikov announced. NOC General Secretary Timur Dossymbetov noted in his turn that sport fans can traditionally count on excellent results from boxers, weight lifters and wrestlers. “Yes, you know that we had some breakthrough results in other sports, but we nevertheless count on our strengths. For example, we obtained a spot at canoe slalom, which is quite an exotic kind of sport for us. You will agree that it’s foolish to hope for a medal right away. But I should say we are getting better in other sports,” the general secretary said. At the press conference they also stressed the three-medal success of Kazakhstan's national team at the Youth Olympic Games in Austria. “ We believe it is a great success. Our team was 23rd in the overall team ranking among 96 countries. We saw we have some capacity in winter sports,” Novikov said. The Olympic Games will take place in the United Kingdom from 27 July till 12 August 2012. London is the 1st city to hold the Olympics for the 3rd time (previously Olympics were held in 1908 and 1948 there). During the games 302 sets of medals will be offered in 26 sports and 39 disciplines.
