An international climbing expedition kicked off on February 9 with Almaty traveler and mountain guide Andrey Gundarev as one of the members of the expedition, Mountain.kz reports. The Almaty citizen climbed his first volcano in February 2012. He chose Orizaba volcano (the highest North American volcano, 5636 meters) as his next goal. Gundarev is the first person from Kazakhstan, who is taking part in the popular climbing program 7 Volcanoes and is going to climb the highest volcanoes of seven continents in the foreseeable future. Kazakhstan's Andrey Gundarev and Russia’s Yury Sukhanov, two members of the expedition, have already taken part in several successful expeditions. These were the expedition to two 7-thousanders of the former Soviet Union - Lenin peak in Kyrgyzstan and to Korzhenevskaya peak in Tajikistan, the expedition to Aconcagua peak, highest peak in South and North America and also the expedition to McKinley peak situated in Alaska. The composition of this expedition is different: an American replaced one Russian climber and another Russian joined the team. Gundarev is the first Kazakhstan citizen who conquered Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano in the world that is situated in high-altitude Atacama desert on the border of Chili and Argentina.
