Participant of international expedition to K2, Kazakhstan alpinist Maksut Zhumayev found signs of life on top of Chogori. “Before it was all white, fluffy, there was not much snow and it looked soft. Now it is scary to even look at it. Looks like it firmed up and covered with rocky shell. Maybe it has some kind of life and soul. Perhaps, it is preparing to resist the storm that is coming soon,” Zhumayev said. According to him, earlier participants of the expedition noted that the mount is covered with snow, now it looks like it got rid of all the snow, especially in the upper part, above 7,000m. The expedition had the second day of rest on July 25. “In the morning we received forecasts that a storm and strong wind of up to 100km/h are expected on July 26.” As per Zhumayev, this forecast is confirming everything that’s happening around the base camp. “It’s been cloudy since morning and the wind is getting stronger. Right now visibility around the top is good, as the clouds are high enough, at around 9-10 thousand meters. The winds is rather cold, it is coming from the mount, from its glaciers. That’s why it is rather cold in the base camp right now, although the sun is getting through the clouds,” the alpinist added. The forecasts say that the storm will last until July 30. That’s why participants of the expedition are planning to go for the forth acclimatization trip on July 29-30. “Right now we have 5-6 days of rest instead of the planned three. This is because it is impossible to work on the mount in such weather. That’s why we will be getting ready in the base camp and will probably go to the lower base (Chinese) camp to have better rest and prepare for one of the most important trips during this expedition,” Zhumayev said. According to Kazakhstan sportsmen, the task for the forth acclimatization trip is not only not set the third camp, but also to work on the route to the forth camp, the last one, that will be located at te height of 8,000m. Chogori is located in Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
