WBA (Super), IBO and WBC (interim) middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin could face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on July 19, 2015, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
According to Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler, Bob Arum, Chavez’s promoter called a month ago to discuss a fight between Golovkin and Chavez.
“Our door is always open for that fight. The reaction we got about just the rumors of that fight happening, when it was supposed to happen July 19th here at The Forum. If that fight happens, that would be his first fight on pay per view. We were so willing to do that fight in July. (…) We can’t force Chavez to get in the ring with him,” Loeffler said.
Meanwhile, Gennady Golovkin scored another victory, this time against a Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Rubio on October 18. Golovkin sent Rubio to the canvas in the second round of the title unifying fight. The fight in Carson, California marked Golovkin’s 31st fight in the professional boxing career. Along with defending his WBA (Super) and IBO titles, GGG won WBC interim title. After the fight, Loeffler stated that Golovkin would have four fights in 2015.
