Kazakhstani undefeated boxer Gennady Golovkin could repeat Mike Tyson’s legendary KO streak in the fight against British boxer Martin Murray, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Golovkin is facing Murray in the ring on February 21 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. In case Triple G sends Murray to the canvas, this will mark Golovkin’s 19th knockout straight. That is the same number of KOs Tyson had in a row in the beginning of his career.
The “Iron Mike” era ended in May 1986 when Tyson faced a contender for the championship title James Tillis. During the fight Tillis, despite going down in a knock down, continued to fight for 10 rounds. Tyson won by the unanimous decision of the judges.
As for the Kazakhstani boxer, Golovkin has had 31 fights and 28 KOs in his professional career. Since 2008, none of Golovkin’s opponents have been able to stand till the last round.
The Golovkin-Murray fight was included in the Top 5 highly anticipated fights in 2015 by Bleacher Report.
