The new figure skating season started for Kazakhstan's figure skater Denis Ten when he performed at the 2012 ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix that was held in Canada on October 26-28, 2012. Denis Ten was ranked sixth at 2012 ISU Canada Figure Skating Grand Prix. Yuriy Guskov, Kazakhstan national figure skating coach, gave an interview to Vesti.kz and told about the main priorities of the Kazakhstan skater during the preolympic season. “As for Denis Ten’s performance in Canada, this was only the beginning of the season and Denis was not ready to skate his new program without mistakes,” Yury Petrovich said. “All the more Denis has got a very difficult program in this season. And we gave him no task of winning the first stages of the Grand Prix.” American coaches Frank Caroll along with Rafael Arutyunyan and Stefane Lambiel prepared his skating program. Skating without mistakes may be especially difficult this year, however. Denis returned to the ice after his injury that he got in the end of last year. Kazakhstan's Denis Ten spectacularly won the the 20th Volvo Open Cup in Riga, Latvia, that was his first competition in 2013. But in the recent Four Continents Figure Skating Championship in Osaka, Japan, his mistakes spoiled the picture once again. He was 7th after the short program, but made a number of big mistakes in the free skating program and was was ranked 12th overall failing to join the world's Top Ten Figure Skaters. When asked about the tournaments the skater would focus on the coach mentioned possible participation in the Shanghai Grand Prix (that was later decided against) and the Moscow stage on November 9-11 (Denis was ninth overall at the Rostelecom Cup) and continued that the 2013 Four Continents Figure Skating Championship would a big focus, but his main goal would be the World Figure Skating Championship that will be held in Canada in March 2013. "He will need be in the Top Ten to win two Olympic spots for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games," the coach said. Abzal Rakimgaliyev is Kazakhstan's second best figure skater after Denis Ten. He is not as successful as Ten, but he is also a talent: he was ranked 15th after the short program and managed to retain the position by successfully performing his free skating program. There is also a good skate dancing duo of Ilyas Ali and Karina Uzurova in Kazakhstan. But the duo is skipping competitions now because of the injuries. will take part in several tournaments as well.
