Tengrinews.kz – Real Madrid defeated Kairat in an away Champions League match in Almaty, and Spanish media shared their review of the game.
The match ended in a 0:5 victory for the Spanish superclub. The star of the match was French forward Kylian Mbappé, who scored a hat-trick.
“Mbappé enjoys himself in Almaty while Kazakhstan challenges Madrid”, reads the headline in El Mundo.
“From the very beginning, the Kazakhs, fierce and energetic, spent their energy trying to break through Courtois. They took a shot on goal in the opening seconds – a timid header from Jorginho which Courtois stopped – and earned their only corner kick of the first half, also early in the game.
Luís Mata, the left-back, Jorginho, and 17-year-old forward Satpayev were the sharpest players for the hosts, whose fans held their breath every time they pushed past midfield,” adds El Mundo.
Referee denies a clear penalty
One of the most talked-about moments came in the 67th minute – the referee initially awarded a penalty to Kairat, but then reversed the decision. Even in Spain, it was acknowledged that in a domestic league, such a foul would have been counted.
“Gromyko fell in front of Ceballos, and the Italian officiating crew led by Guida pointed to the spot. It was the 67th minute, and Real led 2:0. But Ceballos protested, and the video replay agreed with him.
It was Kairat’s forward who initiated the fall in the box, trying to make minimal contact with the Real player. The referee canceled the penalty after a VAR signal, perfectly interpreting the play. There’s a sense that in Spain, even minor contact would have resulted in a penalty,” writes Marca.
Chaos at stadium entry
Many fans couldn’t get into the stadium on time, despite having tickets. There was a major crush outside Central Stadium before the match, which did not go unnoticed by the Spanish media.
“Chaos and crowds dominated the pre-match scenes for Kairat vs Real Madrid. The home stadium holds 23,000 spectators, but over 30,000 were expected. This is evident from photos taken by El Mundo journalist Abraham P. Romero. Even the press faced serious difficulties entering the stadium, primarily due to fake accreditations.
Some fans managed to forge press passes, and Kairat didn’t catch it in time. By the time they noticed the font on the fake badges didn’t match the official ones, it was too late – the press gallery was already full of people who weren’t actual media,” notes Marca.
Spanish journalists also highlighted several odd moments after the match ended. When the final whistle blew, several Kairat players approached their opponents to exchange jerseys, and Brazilian forward Rodrygo even put on a Kairat shirt.
“A surreal request from a Kairat player to Rodrygo after the match. The Real Madrid forward put on the opponent’s shirt – apparently because he had already given his away. This happened regardless of circumstances,” writes AS.

Another peculiar moment took place during the post-match press conference. One journalist gave Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso... a fish.
“Without a doubt, the cherry on top was the gift presented to Xabi Alonso by Kazakh journalists in the press center after the match. Knowing about his passion for fishing, they gave him a life-sized talking fish replica, which surprised and amused the Basque coach.
It wasn’t just any fish – it could talk. This particular one said: ‘Uno, dos, tres… Hala Madrid!’ Some say it was the voice of Cristiano Ronaldo, others claim it was Mbappé,” reports Mundo Deportivo.
It’s worth noting that this match was Kairat’s first-ever home game in the main stage of the Champions League. For Real Madrid, it was their first match on Kazakh soil.
