Participants of the expedition to K2 reached the fourth camp at 8,000 meters, Kazakhstan alpinists Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov told Tengrinews.kz. The alpinist said that on August 21 they started the trip at 8 a.m. and reached the camp after 3 p.m. Today, August 22 they will try to reach the top of the mount. There are three options: 1. reaching the top; 2. passing the Japanese Corridor, reaching the crest, spending the night there and reaching the top tomorrow; 3. working on the route to the top and returning to the fourth camp for the night. The alpinists have already spent four days in the last trip. They always work without oxygen bottles. After ascending the K2 Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner will become the first women in the world to ascend all 14 8-thousanders without oxygen. The latest information was received from Maksut Zhumayev yesterday at 08:04 p.m. Alpinists decided to reach the top of Chogori. The trip started early this morning. Meanwhile, Ralf Dujmovits from Germany wrote in his blog that when earlier he and Tommy Heinrich from Argentina returned to the camp, they discovered that kitchen tent and the tent of Zhumayev and Pivtsov were covered with rocks. It is terrible to imagine what would have happened if the alpinists were in their tents. Chogori is located in the Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
