International expedition to K2 also called Chogori reached the Chinese base camp, Kazakhstan alpinist Maksut Zhumayev told Tengrinews.kz. “The evening was nice, we sang songs in different languages around the campfire, drank some beer and in the end, as usually, made fireworks by putting a gas bottle into the fire,” Zhumayev said. Participants of the expedition had to take additional safeguard measures on their way back to the base camp because of a landslide threat. A small river turned into a real mudflow carrying rocks and ice. Alpinists also received confirmation of the forecast saying that the storm will last until July 30. Zhumayev noted that this long storm should not make the trip to the third camp worse. The next trip’s task is to set the third camp and work on the route to the fourth one at 8,000 meters. Chogori is located in the Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
