The first scoring chance came in the 11th minute. Seventeen-year-old winger of Kazakhstan’s national team and Almaty’s Kairat, Dastan Satpayev, showed his skill on the right side of the penalty area and delivered a sharp pass near the opponent’s box.

After an aerial duel, the ball ended up at the feet of Belarusian defender Alexander Martynovich, who rounded the goalkeeper and scored. However, the referee ruled offside and the goal was disallowed.

For the remainder of the first half, both teams alternated control of the game and had chances to open the scoring. However, neither side managed to convert, and the first half ended 0:0.

The second half began with aggressive pressing from the home side. At one point, Celtic’s confidence nearly cost them a goal. In the 57th minute, Kairat’s Brazilian forward Edmilson intercepted a weak pass in midfield and attempted to lob the far-out goalkeeper Schmeichel, but missed the net by just a few centimeters.

In the 71st minute of the match, Celtic earned a chance to take a corner. After the cross, Kazakhstan’s goalkeeper Alexander Zarutsky came out to defend, contested the aerial ball, but landed awkwardly and remained on the ground.

The medical team examined the goalkeeper, and the team decided not to risk aggravating the injury — Zarutsky left the field. He was replaced by 21-year-old Temirlan Anarbekov.

However, Anarbekov also did not escape injury. In the 87th minute, Celtic’s Japanese forward Shin Yamada, during an attack, accidentally collided with the Kazakh goalkeeper rushing toward the ball. The blow hit his head, and Anarbekov started bleeding.

Doctors reacted quickly, bandaged the goalkeeper’s head, and allowed him to continue the match.

The referee added ten minutes to regular time, during which Almaty forward Dastan Satpayev received a yellow card — his third of this European campaign. As a result, he will miss the return leg against the Scots.

In the end, neither team managed to score, and the match finished in a goalless draw.
