Kazakhstani figure skater Denis Ten has won the bronze medal of the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2014 in Shanghai, Tengrinews reports.

Spanish Javier Fernandez won the gold. Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan followed with the silver medal.

After the Men Short Program, Denis Ten had 85.89 points. For his Free Skating, Ten got 181.83 points showing the best result among all the competitors. In the end, Ten’s total score equaled to 267.72 points.

Ten admitted that he was very upset with his performance in Shanghai. “Certainly, I was not in the same shape as I had been in South Korea. But I managed to retain a high level. I fell and there was this issue with the music. I was so disappointed, but not because of the fall or problems with the music. I was upset that I could not overcome myself. The small unfortunate event badly affected my performance and threw me for a loop. But life goes on. I knew that there was the Free Program ahead. I’m glad that I won the Free Program,” Ten said.

Fernandez and Hanyu beat Ten with 273,90 and 271,08 points respectively. Hanyu won the Men Short Program with 95.20 points.

“I feel better now than I did yesterday. I’m happy to earn one more medal from the World Championship. It is not a bad result. I’m happy to win the Free Program. I want to thank everyone who supported me. There were so many Kazakhstani fans. It surprised me. Usually, fans from other countries cheer for me with Kazakhstani flags. It was unexpected and very touching. Thank you,” Ten said after the competition.

The ISU World Figure Skating Championship took place in Shanghai from March 23 to 29.

Earlier, Ten won the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2015.
