Kazakhstan's Astana Arlans club has confidently won over German Eagles in Hannover in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) match, Vesti.kz reports. Kazakhstan’s boxing club defeated the German team with the score of 4:1 in the away match of the fifth round of WSB group stage. Bantamweight boxers (-54kg) opened the match. Kazakhstan’s Bagdat Alimbekov (Astana Arlans) fought against Romanian legionnaire Nicolae Andreiana (German Eagles). Alimbekov knocked Andreiana down in the fifth round. Seeing that the Romanian boxer wouldn’t be able to continue fighting the referees awarded Bagdat Alimbekov with a victory. The audience was anticipating the second bout of the day between two Irish boxers who used to train in one boxing center. Two Irish fighters Eric Donovan (Astana Arlans) and David Joyce (German Eagles) had a tenacious and tough battle in which German Eagles’ fighter was more successful. In spite of the fact that Joyce lost the first round on points, his advantage was obvious in the further rounds. Joyce evened the team score by winning over Donovan. Sergey Derevyanchenko (Astana Arlans), best 2012 WSB boxer, and young Germany’s Xhek Paskali fought in the third bout of the match. Sergey Derevyanchenko brought the second point to Astana Arlans club. Light heavyweight boxers (-85kg) Germany’s Serge Michel (German Eagles) and Croatian legionnaire Hrvoje Filip (Astana Arlans) fought for the winning point in the fourth bout. Hrvoje prevailed over his rival in each round and secured a well-deserved victory. The score was 3:1 in favor of Kazakhstan’s club. Astana Arlans won the fifth match in the third season of the WSB. In the last heavyweight bout – Filip Hrgovic (Astana Arlans) won over Eric Brechlin (German Eagles). As the result of this victory Astana Arlans club scored 15 points and remained the leader of its group. The name of the Astana's boxing club is translated as steppe wolf from Kazakh. The team was named after alpha male wolf - the leader of the pack - an animal that has been admired and respected for centuries by the nomads of the Great Steppe for its wit, strength and courage.
