Kazakhstan team Astana, supported by Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, is planning to apply for participation in Dakar race in 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the Fund’s Twitter. Participation of Kazakhstan team in the next year’s Dakar rally is not decided on yet. “This issue is not finalized yet, but there is a possibility that Astana will take part in the Africa Race instead of Dakar next year. Africa Race is traditionally held in the same period as the Argentinean race. Africa race’s route is the traditional route of the famous Dakar that gas been held in the last thirty years,” Director of Astana Marat Abykayev said earlier. According to the Fund’s official website, Chairman of Samruk-Kazyna Umirzak Shukeyev met with the team’s participants today, January 27, and said that the fund will keep supporting Astana. “Sport victories promote real patriotism, the pride for the country and the countrymen. You have very brightly demonstrated that Kazakhstan citizens can be equal to the world’s leaders and even win over them. This example is very important these days,” Shukeyev said.
