Mayweather can earn a lot from fighting Gennady Golovkin: Max Kellerman30 july 2015, 17:52
Floyd Maywether Jr (48-0, 26 KOs) should face Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) before the undefeated American retires from the sports, said HBO sports commentator Max Kellerman, Tengrinews reports citing Boxingnews24.com.
Kellerman believes it will be difficult for Mayweather to get fans purchase the fight against Andre Berto on PPV after the disappointing fight against Manny Pacquiao.
At the same time, Kellerman added that he understood why Mayweather would not want to fight against Golovkin. Yet, the Mayweather-Golovkin fight has a great potential if the undefeated Kazakhstani wins his upcoming fight against the IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux and the winner of the Cotto-Alvarez fight.
Golovkin’s possible victories over Lemiuex and the winner of Cotto-Alvarez fight could, according to the sports commentator, make him a million PPV type fighter. Then, with a million PPV fighter status Triple G facing Mayweather will definitely exceed the 4.4 million PPV buys achieved during the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.
"Now we're clamoring for Triple-G. I would love to see him (Mayweather) fight Triple G. I think Triple G would knock Floyd out. I don’t think Floyd would get anywhere near him. It's much easier to say 'Oh, I'd beat him' than to actually try and beat him. He could say it's not worth the money yet. Let's see what Golovkin and Lemiuex do on pay-per-view. Let's see what kind of (PPV) buys that does. If it does a surprising amount of buys, and then Canelo beats Cotto or vice versa, and the winner could fight Triple G. Stylistically, if that's Canelo, then that's a Hagler-Hearns type of action fight. If Triple G wins that fight, at that point, maybe he's a million pay-per-view mover, and then it could make business sense for Mayweather to fight Golovkin", Kellerman told Fighthype.
Gennady Golovkin faces David Lemieux in the middleweight title unification bout on October 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
