Tengrinews.kz - Belgian triathlete Claire Michel was unable to continue her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics due to hospitalization.

Michel was hospitalized after suffering from an infection caused by the E. coli bacteria, which can lead to severe gastrointestinal issues. This strain of bacteria, commonly known as E. coli, was a concern for Olympic organizers who had been addressing water safety issues for months prior to the event. According to reports, Michel has been in the hospital for four days.

Belgium's triathlon relay team withdrew from the competition following Michel's illness.

Notably, Kazakhstan's athlete Ekaterina Shabalina also reported feeling unwell after swim in the Seine, experiencing nausea post-swim.

Earlier, the men's triathlon events at the Paris Olympics were rescheduled due to water quality concerns in the Seine River, which failed to meet safety standards.
