Andre Ward calls Golovkin little g for ducking a fight21 september 2015, 18:24
Andre Ward, the WBA super middleweight champion has called the WBA Super, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin “little.g” for ducking a fight, Tengrinews reports citing Allboxing.ru.
"It's not Triple G no more, It's Little G. Little G turned down an official fight with us, I don't know, about a month ago - I just don't talk about this stuff a lot (...) The reality is, for all the talk, for all the websites that the trainer and promoter went off on, for all the radio, for all that they said, the proof is in the pudding. I have an email right now that shows that we gave him what he wanted, we'll give you 50/50, these are the terms, these are the conditions, and the promoter turned it down and said 'maybe in 2017.' So from now on he's Little G," Ward told SB Nation's Fight Hub TV.
Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler contacted The Times to clarify the situation with Ward's offer. According to Loeffler, the offer from Roc Nation came after the announcement of the Golovkin-Lemiuex fight. Besides, the Managing Director of K2 Promotions said that Roc Nation was fully aware of the WBC conditions set for Golovkin, the WBC Interim title holder. Golovkin’s mandatory challenge fight for the WBC title would take place after the Cotto-Alvarez fight on November 21. Moreover, the fight against Lemiuex for IBF title along with the fight against the winner of Cotto-Alvarez fight was preferable for Golovkin who wanted to unify middleweight titles.
"If the pay-per-view for the Lemieux fight is what we think it should be, Gennady would deserve more than 50% against Ward, considering Ward has barely fought outside of California. So it’s unreasonable to ask us to commit to that right now," Loeffler said.
In addition, K2 Promotions offered Roc Nation a super middleweight fight in the beginning of 2017 between Golovkin and Ward.
Gennady Golovkin is facing David Lemiuex on October 17 at Madison Square Garden.
