9-year-old WCM from Kazakhstan Amina Kairbekova has won a gold medal in U9 category of the FIDE World Schools Championship held in Thailand, Tengrinews reports.

9-year-old WCM from Kazakhstan Amina Kairbekova has won a gold medal in U9 category of the FIDE World Schools Championship held in Thailand, Tengrinews reports.

The World Schools Championship was held in Pattaya on May 6-15 in six age categories. Schoolchildren from 34 countries around the world took part in the tournament. 

After nine rounds of intense competition, the championship finally came to an end. As a result, China was standing first in the team ranking with a total of 14 medals - five gold, five silver and four bronze.

Azerbaijan's national team took the second place by winning four medals, all of them gold.

Next came the Philippines clinching three gold, six silver and one bronze medals.

Kazakhstan ended up in the fourth place with two gold, three silver and five bronze.

Samal Abduali (U13), Arystanbek Urazayev (U17), Altynai Kuzhamkul (U7), Kazybek Nogerbek (U11) and Nazerke Nurgali (U11) hauled bronze medals.

Amina Kairbekova (U9), Ansat Aldiyar (U7) and Deniza Kurmanalina (U7) brought silver medlas back home.

Sayin Zhanat (U17) and Amina Kairbekova (U9) clinched gold medals.

"The World Schools Championship in Pattaya ended with a wonderful result for our national team. Amina Kairbekova outperformed everyone. Apart from gold, she also took silver in the blitz competition. Demonstrating her sporting nature, the 9-year-old student of the Chess Academy of the National Union of Chess Players in Astana earned 8 out of 9 possible points and took the first place with classical time control,” head of the National Union of Chess Players Almaz Zhansagimov told Tengrinews.
