Tengrinews.kz - Two foreign nationals on the interstate wanted list have been detained in Astana. The Russian citizens were wanted for serious crimes, according to Polisia.kz.
The first detainee, a 67-year-old Russian citizen, had been on the run since committing crimes in 1984 in a neighboring country.
"He is accused under four charges: abandonment in danger, robbery, murder, and sexual violence. After evading justice, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reopened the case in September this year, placing him on the international wanted list. The man was detained in the courtyard of a residential building in the city," Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
The second individual, a 47-year-old citizen of the Republic of Ingushetia, had been wanted since July 2023 on suspicion of planting explosive devices.
"The man fled Russia before the court’s verdict could take effect and had been in hiding for over a year and a half. Thanks to police efforts, his location was identified, and he was detained. Both fugitives were apprehended as part of the 'Law and Order' operation and are now in custody. Authorities are currently addressing their extradition to the Russian Federation," the ministry added.
Earlier, Kazakh police located a Kazakh national on the international wanted list who had been hiding in a secret room in Astana.
